Overview
The Suprema Airfob Patch is a compact mobile-access upgrade device designed to convert many existing 13.56 MHz MIFARE card readers and intercom readers into smartphone-enabled access points without replacing the installed hardware. The patch attaches directly to the surface of a compatible reader and receives encrypted mobile credentials from a smartphone over Bluetooth Low Energy, then converts that information into a MIFARE-compatible RF signal that the existing reader can understand. One of its key advantages is that it requires no separate wiring or battery, because it harvests power from the RF field generated by the card reader itself. Suprema specifies BLE 4.0 compatibility, approximate dimensions of 32 × 33.5 × 5.7 mm, a weight of around 13 g, and an IP65-rated enclosure, making it a practical retrofit option for offices, commercial buildings and facilities that want to introduce mobile access without a major hardware replacement project. The Airfob Patch works with Suprema’s current BioStar Air / Suprema Pass mobile credential ecosystem, allowing users to unlock doors with smartphones instead of carrying traditional plastic access cards. Suprema’s documentation explains that the patch reads the encrypted Bluetooth credential and emulates a MIFARE 1K-compatible RFID signal, meaning it is intended for compatible 13.56 MHz readers and is not suitable for 125 kHz low-frequency readers. Mobile credentials can be issued to employees, visitors and members through the cloud platform and used through the Suprema Pass application, with supported workflows using Bluetooth and, on compatible Android environments, NFC. For organisations with custom applications or business systems, Suprema also provides integration options through the Airfob In-App SDK and Airfob Portal API, enabling mobile credential functions to be incorporated into broader access-management or enterprise applications. As a trusted Suprema supplier and professional access-control system integrator in Dubai, VEGA Digital provides consultation, compatibility assessment, supply, installation, configuration and commissioning of Suprema Airfob Patch solutions across Dubai and the UAE. VEGA Digital can evaluate existing MIFARE access readers and determine where Airfob Patch can be used to introduce smartphone access while retaining the organisation’s existing readers, door controllers, electric locks and access infrastructure. The solution can also be integrated with Suprema mobile credentials, BioStar Air, Suprema Pass, visitor-access workflows, enterprise access-control platforms and existing door-security systems, helping organisations migrate gradually from physical cards to mobile credentials.
